Workshop: How ministers can lead an effective crisis response

An in-depth workshop to support ministers to think about how they deal effectively with crises when they occur.

Crises are among the greatest challenges a minister will face while in office. Based on our research into ministerial leadership during crises, we have developed an in-depth workshop to support ministers to think about how they deal effectively with these situations when they occur. This is part of a package of resources from the IfG Academy supporting ministers to lead during a crisis.

Who should attend

This workshop can be tailored for:

  • Individual ministers and their official and/or political teams; or
  • Ministerial teams looking to reflect on how they would work together in a crisis.

What this workshop will cover

Our two-hour, in-person workshops will help ministers prepare for, and deal effectively with, crises.

You will:

  • Define what a crisis is and how to know when you’re in – or heading into – one
  • Explore the six roles ministers can play when crises hit and the key considerations in applying these in your own work;
  • Build a practical action plan of steps you can take before and during crises so you and your department can respond effectively.

What to expect

  • Expert facilitators: the workshop will be delivered by experienced facilitators who blend rigorous research on crises with in-depth knowledge of the realities of being a minister.
  • Interactive learning: using scenarios and peer discussions, you’ll explore how to apply your learnings in your current context.
  • Immediate takeaways: so you can continue to build your resilience and be ready to respond to crises.
