Public Services Performance Tracker 2026
The most comprehensive stocktake of the Labour government’s progress on public services since the 2024 general election.
The Public Services Performance Tracker 2026 annual report, published in partnership with the Nuffield Foundation, provides the most comprehensive stocktake of the Labour government’s progress on public services since the 2024 general election.
Using more than 250 indicators, it analyses spending, demand, staffing and performance across nine key public services: general practice, hospitals, adult social care, children’s social care, schools, police, criminal courts, prisons, and the probation service.
This year’s edition looks at how the government is progressing on its own stated goals for services, how progress varies across the country and provides recommendations for how the government could improve performance over the remainder of this parliament. It also provides in-depth analysis of the Starmer government’s record on public service reform as well as the cross-cutting issues facing local government, the NHS and criminal justice services.
The report is being published in sections between 7 October and 19 November. A launch event for the report will be held on 21 October.
