Parliamentary Monitor 2019: Snapshot

In September 2018, the Institute for Government launched Parliamentary Monitor, an annual data-driven analysis of Parliament’s activity.

Parliament was purportedly prorogued on 9 September, bringing the 2017–19 session to a close. However, on 24 September 2019, the Supreme Court has found the prorogation unlawful and of no effect. This means the previous parliamentary session continues where it left off. This short ‘snapshot’ paper highlights the most interesting aspects of Parliament’s work during the 2017–19 session in the period before Parliament was unlawfully prorogued.

The next full edition of Parliamentary Monitor will consider Parliament’s activity during the full 2017–19 session, whenever it comes to an end.
