We were excited to host the first online-only Data Bites event! We also took questions virtually during the event via #IFGDataBites and Slido.

Better use of data is key to more effective government. Across government, teams are doing fascinating work with data. But those projects don’t get the attention they deserve.

At this event, the ninth in our series, our speakers presented their data projects in an exciting, quickfire format. Each speaker had eight minutes, followed by eight minutes of questions from the audience.

In April we heard from:

• Kirsten Mulcahy, Head of the Social Economy Data Lab at Social Investment Business, on how social economy data can be used to identify those communities most vulnerable to the impact of Covid-19.
• Haroon Chowdry, Director of Evidence at the Children’s Commissioner’s Office, on using data to understand the levels of childhood vulnerability in England.
• Tonu Basu, Lead, Thematic Policy Areas at Open Government Partnership, on the importance of approaching open data through a gender lens, including during times of crisis.
• Dr Alice Lilly, Senior Researcher, Institute for Government, on three things Alice learned about parliamentary data (the hard way).
