Better use of data is key to more effective government. Across government, teams are doing fascinating work with data. But those projects don’t get the attention they deserve. Data Bites aims to change that.

Our latest event was the 48th in our series and a special edition of Data Bites, showcasing ground-breaking work in the crucial area of safe access to ‘smart data’ for research.

We explored emerging developments in smart data generated through everyday interactions with the digital world, including via mobile apps, navigation systems, social media, and shopping.

Each speaker had eight minutes, followed by eight minutes of questions from the audience.

This month's speakers were:

  • Joe Cuddeford, Director at Smart Data Research UK, on 'Safe access to smart data for research'
  • Frank Gauld, Chief Executive Officer at Smart Data Foundry, on 'Unlocking Financial Institutions’ community intelligence through private sector data sharing at scale'
  • Ben Goldacre, Director at the Bennett Institute for Applied Data Science
  • Professor Gina Neff, Executive Director of the Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy,

The event was chaired by Gavin Freeguard, Associate at the Institute for Government.
