Sir Ian Cheshire

Sir Ian was appointed as chair of Channel 4 in March 2022. Other current appointments are non-executive director BT Group plc, Chair of Spire Healthcare plc, chairman of Menhaden plc and chair of The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund. 

His previous appointments include being the lead non-executive director for the government from 2016–2021; chairman of Debenhams; CEO of Kingfisher plc and B&Q; chairman of Maisons du Monde. He was also chairman of the British Retail Consortium; chairman of The Prince of Wales's Corporate Leaders Group on climate change; president of the Business Disability Forum President’s Group; and chaired the Ecosystem Markets Task Force. 

Sir Ian was knighted in the 2014 New Year Honours for services to business, sustainability and the environment, and is a Chevalier of the Chevalier of the Ordre national du Mérite. He has won a number of awards including lifetime contributions to retailing and Fortune WEF Award for Leadership.

Sir Ian is deputy chair of the Institute’s Board of Governors.
