Better Budgets: Making tax policy better

The Chartered Institute of Taxation, the Institute for Fiscal Studies and the Institute for Government invite you to the launch of a new report, Better Budgets: Making Tax Policy Better.

The Chancellor recently signalled a willingness to reform tax policymaking with the announcement in his Autumn Statement of a return to a single annual fiscal event, which we recommended last year. Our new report sets out ways to capitalise on and embed that change, setting the course for better tax policy.

Three of the report authors  Bill Dodwell, President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation; Paul Johnson, Director, Institute for Fiscal Studies, and Jill Rutter, Programme Director, Institute for Government  set out the principal recommendations of the report.

Jane Ellison MP, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, responded to the report.

The event was chaired by Julian McCrae, Deputy Director, Institute for Government.
