Miguel Coelho

Former Fellow

Miguel was a Fellow at the Institute from November 2011 – March 2016. He led the Institute’s work on economic growth in partnership with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the University of Strathclyde.

Miguel is an economist with extensive experience of working and influencing policy-focused environments. He has played a variety of roles at the heart of government (providing advice to HM Treasury, the Prime Minister's Strategy Unit, and Number 10); in government departments, as a Strategy Advisor to the Department for Education; outside government, as a leading conomist in the Institute for Public Policy Research, an advisor to foreign think tanks, and an economics commentator in the international media.

Miguel’s research interests include the drivers of income determination and growth; the economics of the welfare state; and the political economy of institutional reform.
