The Institute for Government, the Constitution Unit, the FDA, Transparency International-UK and Spotlight on Corruption have published an open letter calling on the prime minister to appoint a new independent adviser with the power to initiate their own investigations and to implement the other recommendations from the Committee on Standards in Public Life.

These changes would not infringe on Rishi Sunak's ability to appoint, defend or dismiss ministers, but they would strengthen the system of standards in government which has been brought into disrepute in recent months.
