Raj Johal

Former researcher

Raj was on secondment to the Institute for Government from the Home Office, where he is responsible for strategy, planning and change at Heathrow Airport. Prior to this he led the airport’s specialist customs functions, with responsibility for 400 staff and the processing 70% of the UK’s air freight with a trade value of £100bn; and was operational commander for Terminals 4 and 5.

Raj joined the civil service in 2007 and has held various senior management roles in private offices; corporate services; and both small ‘turnaround’ projects and larger transformation programmes. Raj read economics at university and is an alumnus of Cambridge Judge Business School.
