Working to make government more effective

Jack is an Associate Director in the civil service team, where he has worked on research around civil service reform, government transitions and special advisers. He also helps to shape the Institute's external engagement activities.

Jack studied Cell and Systems Biology before working in politics – first in a pooled research facility for Conservative MPs, and later in a public affairs agency. He provided policy research for a campaign for the leadership of the Conservative Party in 2019, before joining an MP’s parliamentary office.

Before joining the Institute, Jack was a special adviser to the deputy prime minister at the Ministry of Justice. He was responsible for prisons and reoffending policy, legislative handling, parliamentary engagement, and briefing and preparation for parliamentary appearances including Prime Minister’s Questions.
