The Institute for Government and Legal & General held a special event in Washington, D.C., featuring Sir Paul Tucker and Dr Anne-Marie Slaughter.

The Institute for Government and Legal & General held a special event at the British Ambassador’s Residence in Washington, D.C., featuring Sir Paul Tucker and Dr Anne-Marie Slaughter.

Modern governments face the interconnected challenges of an ageing population, decreasing productivity and rapid technological change shaping the workforce. At the inaugural event in our Global Thinkers series, leading thinkers from both sides of the Atlantic explored the priorities for managing these fast-emerging trends in 2019 and beyond.

Joining Dr Slaughter and Sir Paul was John Godfrey of Legal & General. The event was moderated by Bronwen Maddox, Director of the Institute for Government.

This event was part of our Global Thinkers series.

Sir Paul Tucker is a Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School and Chair of the Systemic Risk Council, and author of “Unelected Power.” For over thirty years, he was a central banker and regulator at the Bank of England and G20 Financial Stability Board.

Dr Anne-Marie Slaughter is President and CEO of the think and action tank New America. She was previously Dean of Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and was the first female policy planning director at the US State Department.

Bronwen Maddox is Director of the Institute for Government. She was previously editor and CEO of Prospect magazine, Foreign Editor and US Editor of The Times, an investigative reporter and editorial writer at the Financial Times; in her earlier career she was a Director of Kleinwort Benson Securities, a London-based securities house.

John Godfrey is Corporate Affairs Director at Legal & General, where he worked through the global financial crisis. He returned to this role following a spell in government as head of the Downing Street Policy Unit under UK Prime Minister Theresa May.
