The Institute of Government was delighted to welcome Robert Chote, Chairman of the Office for Budget Responsibility, in conversation with Bronwen Maddox, Director of the Institute for Government.

They discussed the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) and some wider questions of economic policy and the outlook for the UK.

Robert Chote has been Chairman of the OBR since October 2010, having been reappointed for a second five-year term in 2015. Previously he was the Director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies from 2002 to 2010, an advisor at the International Monetary Fund from 1999 to 2002, and Economics Editor of the Financial Times from 1995 to 1999.
