A keynote speech by Bernard Jenkin MP, Chair of the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee (PACAC)

Bernard Jenkin MP, chair of PACAC, gave a speech on the committee's inquiry into the civil service.

The Institute for Government invited guests to a keynote speech by Bernard Jenkin MP, Chair of the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee (PACAC).

Jenkin outlined PACAC’s wide-ranging inquiry into the Civil Service which comes at a time when Whitehall faces a hugely ambitious agenda – supporting the Government in cutting public spending while maintaining the quality of public services, implementing Theresa May’s new agenda and, of course, Brexit.

In his speech, Jenkin addressed fundamental questions about the role and design of the Civil Service. He placed the inquiry in the context of the on-going attempts at reform, outlined the scope of current inquiry and set out what the Committee hopes to achieve.
