Policy and legislation after the Budget
Dr Emily Andrews tracks the state of key policies and legislation after the Chancellor's Budget.
The Budget saw announcements on housing, devolution deals and universal credit. But the Chancellor was silent on social care and uncertainty remains on the future of business rates retention and the police funding formula.
We now have the Government's Industrial Strategy which includes four sector deals, four grand challenges and five foundations of productivity – though not exactly the focused vision we might have hoped for. The Government did announce a new independent Industrial Strategy Council to assess its progress, which we will examine as further details emerge.
