Our funding and collaborations

The majority of the Institute for Government’s funding comes from the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, one of the Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts. For 2017-18, the Institute received a core grant of £3.8 million from the Gatsby Charitable Foundation towards our charitable work. Further information is available from our annual accounts filed with the Charity Commission.

We also receive financial and in-kind support from a range of organisations that share our commitment to making government more effective. These include academic institutions, charitable trusts, the media, consultancies and providers. You can see the range of organisations we have worked with below. This lists all funders who have provided us with income over £1,000 in recent years. We also give funding bands as an indication of the amount received from each funder.

We are committed to transparency and we always acknowledge third party support. In 2017, Transparify gave the Institute for Government a 5-star rating for meeting the gold standard for funding transparency.

In June 2017 Who Funds You?, an organisation that promotes funding transparency among think tanks and political campaigns with a strong public policy or research focus, gave the Institute for Government an A-rating for its transparency.

Our arrangements with partners are never exclusive and are for fixed time periods. We retain control of the scope, content, conclusions and recommendations of all funded work.

If you would like to discuss working in partnership with the Institute, please contact David Tripepi-Lewis, Head of Partnerships and Development: david.tripepi-lewis@instituteforgovernment.org.uk
