The Institute for Government is delighted to welcome Sir John Holmes, Chair of the Electoral Commission.

At this event, he will give a speech on the risks to our democratic process and the need to secure its continued integrity and reputation.  He will also be in conversation with Bronwen Maddox, Director of the Institute for Government.

Sir John Holmes started his career at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and served in a wide range of diplomatic roles in London, Moscow, New Delhi, Lisbon and Paris. He spent four years (1996-99) in Downing Street, has served as UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and was most recently Director of the Ditchley Foundation. He became Chair of the Electoral Commission in January 2017.
