Transitions: Lessons Learned: Reflections on the 2010 UK general election - and looking forward to 2015

Catherine Haddon and Peter Riddell look back at the latest election and the aftermath.

Transitions: Lessons Learned by Catherine Haddon and Peter Riddell covers the long run-up to the 2010 election, the unexpected dramas of the Coalition negotiations in ‘the five days in May', and the aftermath as the new ministers adapted to the challenges of office.

The report also looks forward to 2015. The experience of May 2010, the creation of the Coalition, and the passage of the Fixed term Parliaments Act, mean that the preparations for transition will have to be very different in future. We argue that politicians and the Civil Service need to start thinking about these differences now.
