Working to make government more effective

Research and engagement

Engage with policy makers through original research and public and private events.

Research

Rigorous research and cutting-edge analysis are at the heart of the IfG’s work. Our programme areas cover a range of policy and governance topics, including levelling up, net zero, government reform and the civil service, public finances, the role of ministers, devolution and public service delivery.

By supporting an IfG research programme, your organisation will benefit from being clued into the latest thinking on government effectiveness in the policy areas most relevant to you, taking part in research-focused private and public events with politicians, officials and leading experts, co-branding on insight papers and other research outputs, as well as attending regular meetings with IfG experts to receive research updates.

Events, conferences and roundtables

We host a lively programme of public events throughout the year – featuring senior politicians and public officials, former prime ministers and chancellors – and private roundtables convening policymakers and leading experts from across Westminster, Whitehall, regional and local government, business, media and academia.

As well as hosting events around the country, the Institute benefits from a fully catered venue at 2 Carlton Gardens in the heart of Westminster. Our livestreaming and hybrid facilities attract high-profile speakers and high-quality audiences from across the UK and internationally, increasing our reach and enabling us to broaden our pool of experts irrespective of geography.

Our public panel events offer the opportunity to increase brand awareness, establish your organisation as a thought-leader and network with important decision makers, while our private roundtables are conducive to in-depth discussions with policy experts and senior decision makers. We are also able to host half- or full-day conferences informed by original IfG research to engage with government officials and politicians on different aspects of our work programme.

Podcasts and newsletters

The IfG produces a weekly podcast, Inside Briefing, where we discuss recent news and events and IfG research. Our podcast attracts high-profile guests, including politicians and civil servants, special advisers, leading journalists and industry representatives. Inside Briefing often attracts 5,000–6,000 weekly listens and regularly tops the political podcasts charts, making it one of our most impactful engagement opportunities for organisations looking to increase name recognition and establish themselves as experts on specific policy areas.

Our weekly newsletter is distributed to a mailing list of over 33,000 subscribers, made up of civil servants, politicians, academics, journalists, the private, public and third sectors and wider public, presenting a great opportunity to increase name recognition and post promotional and campaign messages.
