Working to make government more effective

Oliver Chan

Intern

Oliver was an intern working on our project on government outsourcing. Prior to this, he has primarily worked in programmes, grant writing and research for charities in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, and in higher education at UCL – including a recent research internship at Constitution Unit.

Oliver graduated with an MA in Political Science from Victoria University of Wellington, having completed a thesis on party politics and the rise of anti-immigration politics in Austria.

Government procurement

One third of government’s spending is with contractors: last year, four departments spent more than half their budgets with external suppliers.
