Financial leadership at the centre of Whitehall

The Institute for Government invites you to a discussion on financial leadership at the centre of Whitehall.

Event at 18:00, followed by a drinks reception
Institute for Government, 2 Carlton Gardens, London SW1Y 5AA

The Institute for Government invites you to a discussion on financial leadership at the centre of Whitehall. Strengthened financial management will be vital as the government faces the ongoing challenges of austerity.

There is now a focus on the centre of Whitehall in improving financial management. The NAO have just published a report calling for more effective leadership from the The Treasury, while the ICAEW among others have set out proposals for a new Group CFO role. The Treasury has highlighted its moves to integrate finance and strategy in evidence to the PAC.

This event is an opportunity to explore and discuss these points of view, looking at areas of agreement and disagreement, and identifying constructive ways forward for financial management in government. The discussion will be led by:

  • Sharon White - Director General Public Spending, HM Treasury
  • Vernon Soare - Executive Director, Professional Standards, ICAEW
  • Sir Andrew Likierman - Dean of the London Business School and Former Head of the Government Accountancy Service
  • Chair: Julian McCrae - Deputy Director, Institute for Government and co-author of the Institute’s and CIMA’s Financial Leadership for Government publication.
