The UK’s position in the World Trade Organization (WTO), its negotiations with the EU and its pursuit of trade deals around the world are crucial to UK prosperity post-Brexit. The Institute for Government, in partnership with the City of London Corporation, was delighted to welcome Pascal Lamy, former Director General of the WTO and former European Commissioner for Trade who shared his thoughts on these issues, followed by a Q&A with the audience.

Jeremy Browne, former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Special Representative for the City to the EU, also spoke at the event.

Pascal Lamy was Chief of Staff to Jacques Delors during his tenure as President of the European Commission. Lamy went on to serve as European Commissioner for Trade 1999-2004, and in 2005 he became the Director General for the World Trade Organization, a role he held until 2013.
