In conversation with Douglas Carswell MP

Douglas Carswell MP discusses his new book, Rebel: How to overthrow the emerging oligarchy.

The Institute for Government was delighted to welcome Douglas Carswell MP to discuss his new book Rebel: How to overthrow the emerging oligarchy, which calls for a “fundamental change in capitalism and politics”.

Drawing upon both the themes of the book, this event explored:

  • the power structures of Whitehall and Westminster
  • the rise of populism around the world and where this fits in historical context
  • the challenges and opportunities the nation will face after Brexit.

The discussion was chaired by Jill Rutter, Programme Director at the Institute for Government.

Douglas Carswell is the MP for Clacton. He helped found Vote Leave, the official campaign to get Britain out of the EU.
