The challenges of being a minister

Wednesday 31 January 2018, 18:00

This event explored the challenges of being a minister, drawing upon the Institute for Government’s Ministers Reflect series and development work with ministers.

Two distinguished former ministers, The Rt Hon Kenneth Clarke QC MP and The Rt Hon Jack Straw, were in conversation with Bronwen Maddox, Director of the Institute for Government.

Along with personal anecdotes on the challenges of being a minister, the discussion addressed:

  • how to work with Parliament and departments
  • effective cross-party working
  • how to make good policy and ensure a legacy.
