The economics of Brexit

The Institute for Government invites you to a discussion on what those assessments tell us about the choice now confronting the Government and Parliam

The judgement of sufficient progress paves the way for discussions on the UK’s long-term trade relationship with the EU – and the rest of the world.

The Government has only recently begun to have this conversation, but there is no shortage of economic assessments looking at how Brexit will affect the country.

The Institute for Government held a discussion on what those assessments tell us about the choice now confronting the Government and Parliament.

Our panel included:

  • Liam Halligan, Telegraph Columnist and co-author of "Clean Brexit - How to make a success of leaving the EU"
  • Ambassador Charles P. Ries, lead author of the RAND Corporation’s recent report ‘After Brexit: Alternate forms of Brexit and their implications for the United Kingdom, the European Union and the United States’.
  • Professor L Alan Winters CB, Professor of Economics in the University of Sussex and Director of the UK Trade Policy Observatory.

This event was chaired by Bronwen Maddox, Director at the Institute for Government.
