With publication of a civil service reform plan imminent, we examine what the plan needs to do to be successful.

In March 2012 the Institute for Government (IfG) published an open letter setting out its view of the challenges on civil service reform. We concluded that unless reforms are urgently introduced, there will be the risk of a downward spiral of cuts, inadequate services and a demoralised Civil Service. With publication of a civil service reform plan imminent, we examine what we should be looking for in the plan.
