Shaping up: A Whitehall for the future
18th January 2010The Institute for Government carried out a year-long study to examine whether the centre ready to face the challenges of the future. "Shaping up: A Whitehall for the future" is the result of detailed analysis drawing upon on the full range of published data; international comparisons; unprecedented new analysis, such as our work on Departmental boards; and extensive interviews with Senior Civil Servants, Ministers and others who deal with government on a regular basis.
We found that there are long-standing strategic gaps at the heart of British government and that closing those gaps will be fundamental in ensuring government is working together on the difficult issues it will face over the next two years.
Building on 'State of the Service', this final report sets out our findings and recommendations.
