Institute releases report on state of the House of Commons Administration
29th June 2010The Institute for Government has published an assessment of the state of the House of Commons' administration, one year after the MPs' expenses scandal.
The report, Firm foundations for a new politics? The Governance of the House of Commons after the MPs expenses crisis, welcomes recent progress, but argues that change has not yet gone far enough.
It makes recommendations in three areas:
- accountability and scrutiny
- capacity and capability
- managing risk.
The report concludes that with political reform at the heart of the coalition's agenda and a cleaner politics being promised by all major parties, should change not occur in these areas it could give the public more reasons to mistrust the people that they elect.
