This event explored what the Prime Minister means by a smarter state, examining the themes: reform, devolution and efficiency.

The Prime Minister recently outlined his vision for a smarter state, one where it is possible to deliver better services to citizens for less money. 

This event explored what the Prime Minister means by a smarter state, examining the themes - reform, devolution and efficiency – which he believes underpin the impending Spending Review.  The panel included:

  • Paul Goodman, Executive Editor of Conservative Home
  • Peter Housden, until recently Permanent Secretary of the Scottish Government
  • Daniel Thornton, Programme Director at the Institute for Government

The Prime Minister also spoke of difficult decisions and the panel will consider how the government should prioritise and plan effectively for the next few years.

This event was chaired by Jo Casebourne, Programme Director at the Institute.
