International research and knowledge transfer community
The Institute is the UK home for an international collaboration to extend the theory and practice of public administration.
The international programme is led by Mme Jocelyne Bourgon, President Emeritus at the Canadian National School of Public Service. In addition to the UK, there are national centres in Canada, Australia (with New Zealand), the Netherlands, Singapore and Brazil.
Professor Sue Richards, Senior Fellow at the Institute, is co-ordinator of the UK's contribution, which will involve government, academia and others.
The work is predicated on the assumption that existing frameworks for thinking about public administration are not up to the task of framing and guiding the way forward in a world characterised by complexity, risk and turbulence.
Innovative practices sometimes show the way in advance of the development of conceptual frameworks. However, in order to accelerate change, we need to undertake the thinking and share the results. The collaboration will work around four sub-themes (compliance, performance, resilience and emergence) and their interactions.
A website for this international collaboration is being developed and will be accessed via this site. In the meantime, please send enquiries to: sue.richards@instituteforgovernment.org.uk.
