Action learning sets

Our approach to Action Learning (AL) is to provide a framework for the identification, exploration and solving of organisational problems.

Working with small groups of participants our emphasis is on providing a protected and supported space in which real public service issues and challenges can be brought to the surface, orthodoxies exposed to the rigours of analysis and experience deployed to reach creative and innovative solutions.

Method and outcomes

Action Learning work groups will be largely self-managing. However, experience demonstrates that having in place some formal element of facilitation and brokerage can be key to ensuring that those participating come away from the experience more confident in their skills and abilities, as well as more reflective in how they operate as senior public servants.

Those participating in Action Learning will gain insight, new capabilities and an enhanced focus on strategies for bringing problems to the point of resolution or solutions that will be valuable in their working lives. Participants will also be able to draw valuable knowledge and personal learning from their reflections on having been part of a managed and supported process.
